Milestones and progress

Milestones and progress

Milestones are the workflow's control points and the source of its % progress. They report progress to a client without relying on someone entering a percentage by eye.

Bar Chart What they are

Milestones split the workflow into phases and show at a glance where the process stands. In the workflow finder's board view, each workflow shows its milestone progress with colored dots.

Brick How they're built

Each template milestone has a type, a category, an order, and a percentage. The workflow stores the last completed milestone and its progress.

There are two ways, and one is simpler:
  • Attach tasks to the milestone (the simplest): from each task's "add to milestone" field. When those tasks complete, the milestone is met. It's the standard way to report progress without entering percentages by hand.
  • Completion rules: the same AND/OR condition engine; the milestone is marked met when its rules are satisfied.
A milestone with no rules and no attached tasks stays an informational marker: it won't complete on its own.

Milestones are most often defined on the template; you can also edit those of a specific workflow. First set up the milestone types (Settings → Milestone types); then, on the template, add each milestone with its type, category, order, and percentage.
