A dashboard is a visual board where you bring together the metrics that matter to you: charts, big numbers, tables, maps, text, and images — all in one place and updated with real Sytex data.
It's what you open in the morning to see how the month is going, or what you project in the weekly meeting without having to prepare anything.
You build them by dragging and dropping. No technical knowledge needed: if you can move a window, you can build a dashboard.
📊 Before you start: where to find them
In the left-hand menu you'll find the Dashboards option. From there you see the list of every dashboard you created and the ones shared with you, and you can search by name.
Don't see the option? It depends on your user's permissions. Ask whoever administers Sytex in your organization to enable the module. It's quick.
Create a dashboard
Go to Dashboards and choose New dashboard .
Give it a name and, if you want, a description. Both can be edited later by clicking on them in edit mode.
You'll see an empty canvas waiting for content. The next step is bringing in widgets.
Everything saves automatically: while you work you'll see the Saving… indicator in the top bar. There's no save button you can forget.
How widgets get to the dashboard
This is the part that raises the most questions, so let's take it slow. Widgets aren't created from the dashboard: they're created where the data lives and sent to the board from there.
From a grid. Open the grid you already built, go to the options menu (⋯) and choose Convert to widget . Sytex asks which dashboard to add it to and places it there. (If you don't have any dashboard yet, create one first and try again.)
From a saved view. In Sytex's finders —tasks, projects, forms— you can save a view with your filters and check the Show as widget option. That view becomes available to bring to the dashboard.
The dashboard's own elements. In edit mode, the + (Add element) button lets you add:
Text , for titles, notes, or the context a number alone doesn't give.
Image , for example the client's logo or a reference drawing.
Filters , which we explain below.
Depending on how it's set up, a widget can appear as a bar chart (vertical, horizontal, or stacked), line, pie, or waterfall chart, as a table, matrix, map, gauge, or as a big, direct number.
Edit mode: arrange everything your way
Click the pencil icon ✏️ to enter edit mode. There you can:
Move and resize each widget by dragging it around the canvas.
Configure a widget : selecting it opens a side panel with its properties and appearance.
Order the layers when two elements overlap: bring to front, send to back.
Undo and redo with the arrow buttons. Experiment freely — you can always go back.
Zoom , with the slider in the top bar. You can click the percentage to return to the original fit.
When you're done, click Done and the dashboard returns to view mode.
Careful when deleting widgets. If a widget exists only on that dashboard, deleting it removes it permanently and it can't be recovered. Sytex warns you before you confirm; it's worth reading that message.
Filters: one control for several widgets
Filters are what turn a nice-looking dashboard into a useful one.
When you add a filter, Sytex automatically detects which of your widgets can respond to it and shows you how many it affects. You place the filter once and control the whole board from there: change the client or the date range and all the widgets update together.
To return to the initial state, use Reset filters from the actions menu.
If you remove a filter from the dashboard, it's also removed from every widget it controlled. Sytex tells you before doing it.
Share with your team
From the actions menu, the Share option lets you add users and roles to the dashboard. Sharing by role is very handy: when someone new with that role joins, they already have it, without you having to remember.
For each person or role you choose the access level:
Can view — looks at the dashboard and uses the filters, but doesn't change the layout.
Can edit — can also rearrange, add, and remove widgets.
Whoever created it always shows as Owner. From the same panel you can copy the link to share it by chat or email.
Export and duplicate
Export as PDF or image, from the actions menu. The file includes the export date, so it's clear which point in time the data reflects. Perfect to attach to a monthly report.
Duplicate creates a full copy. It's the easiest way to build another client's or region's version: duplicate, change the filters, and you're done.
Refresh pulls fresh data for all widgets.
The assistant
In the top bar there's a button with ✨. It opens a conversational assistant beside the dashboard, so you can ask about what you're seeing without leaving the screen.
Good to know
Data is processed in the background. So boards load fast even with tons of information, Sytex prepares the data ahead of time. That's why something loaded a few minutes ago may not show yet. If a number doesn't match what you just did, wait a few minutes and use Refresh before worrying.
A dashboard shows what each person can see. Sharing it doesn't give anyone access to data they otherwise wouldn't see.
Save an image before a big change. If you're going to redesign a board your team relies on, exporting it first takes ten seconds and keeps the "before" handy.
Still have questions?
Write to us via the support chat inside Sytex. If you tell us what you want to monitor —"how many tasks each crew closes per week," for example— we'll help you decide which grid to build and how to bring it to the dashboard.
